Nizwa, capital of the interior and the birthplace of Islam in Oman, can be explored on a full day trip out of Muscat. Nizwa was an historic seat of learning and is now renowned for its 17th century round fort and Souk famous for intricately hand-carved khanjars (daggers) and ornamental silver jewelry.
Jebel Shams is the highest peak of the Jebel Al Akdhar mountain range, soaring 3,009 meters above sea level. Spectacular scenery, ancient rock carvings and remote villages – this is the ‘Grand Canyon’ of Oman. There will be time to experience some of the breath-taking scenery before returning back to Muscat.
